Wade’s home run helps Bangor East gain victory> Brewer beats Hampden; Camden stops Damariscotta

Evan Wade’s second-inning homer started Bangor East off offensively as the team piled up nine hits on their way to eliminating Bangor West from the District 3 Bangor Little League playoffs Tuesday 7-2.

In other Greater Bangor action for 11-12 year-olds, Brewer gave Hampden its first loss 11-3.

Bangor East will play Hampden today and the winner will face Brewer Thursday.

Camden knocked Damariscotta out of District 2’s 9- and 10-year-old Little League playoffs with a 12-1 win. Camden will play the winner of today’s Knox-Waldoboro game.

Moosabec blasted Machias out of the Senior League Softball playoffs in a 22-13 victory. Moosabec will play Acadia today.

Bangor East 7, Bangor West 2

At Bangor, Wade’s second-inning home run was enough to eliminate the crosstown rivals.

Wade also had a single, while teammates Jason Thomas, Corey Gildart, and Joe Campbell each had two singles. Pitcher Dave Kilgour struck out five.

For Bangor West, Charlie Makris had a double and single, while pitcher Justin Libbey struck out six.

Brewer 11, Hampden 3

At Hampden, Adam Freeman and Adam Barnes each knocked out a home run to push Hampden to its first loss.

Joel Barrett had a double and two singles in the midst of Brewer’s 15-hit attack. Jeremy Kochis had three singles, Lucas Trundy and Lon Drillen had two singles, and Joe Griffin had a single and double.

Jeremy Kochis struck out seven and didn’t walk anyone in his four-hitter for Brewer.

For Hampden, Matt Paine, Josh Sporacio, Eric Achorn, and Adam Gallant each singled.

Camden 12, Damariscotta 1

At Camden, Patrick Aylward and Russ Fitzpatrick combined to strike out 10 and walk three as they pitched a no-hitter over four innings to eliminate Damariscotta.

Aylward doubled in two runs for Camden, and Troy Gabriel added an RBI single.

For Damariscotta, Mike Wallace walked and scored on three wild pitches.

Moosabec 22, Machias 13

At Machias, Renee Davis knocked in five runs with three doubles, and Samantha Stewart added four more on three singles to lead Moosabec to victory.

Cassie Cates hit a grand slam and singled for Machias.
