Pax Christi, the international Catholic peace movement, will celebrate its 50th anniversary at its annual assembly Friday-Sunday, Aug. 11-13, at the University of Southern Maine, Gorham.

The theme of the assembly, which will also mark the 50th anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, is “From the Bomb to the Cross: the Journey Continues.” A reconciliation service recognizing the evils of World War II and international violence since will be held Friday evening, with seminars Saturday focusing on domestic violence and on United States violence abroad. Films, workshops, a panel discussion, a lobster bake, contradancing and a Eucharistic service also will be held.

The program will include three speakers: Bruce Kent, international peace movement leader; Bishop Samuel Ruiz Garcia of San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, Nobel Peace Prize nominee; and the Rev. Emmanuel Charles McCarthy, a Boston Melkite rite priest.
