Each day it seems there is another article or TV interview about how Veazie should lower its speed limits. I propose that Veazie raise its speed limits to the level of enforcement, somewhere in the excess of 50 mph in front of my house.
The danger to my family and pets has been a sore point with me for years. I have written several times to the town manager and police chief over the six years that I have lived here. I still treasure the letter I recieved from the prior town manager, Gerry Kempen, which stated empathetically that the town would not enforce the 25 mph limit.
I don’t blame Jean Hamilton for being concerned about the speeds through Davis Field. If 30,000 GVW vehicles can cruise by my house at 45-50 mph with impunity (approximate stopping distance — Calais), then they’re probably doing close to 70 in that 35 mph zone.
Drop the speed limits? Ha! Just enforcing the damn things instead of just talking about them would be a good start. Stephen F. McGuire Veazie
