Brewer moved into the driver’s seat in the Little League ages 9-10 State Tournament at Westbrook and Biddeford won the Junior League Baseball state title in Bangor to highlight Monday’s postseason action.
Also Monday, Belfast beat Damariscotta 6-1 in the L.L. 11-12 playoffs for the District 2 title. Belfast goes on to the state tourney in Cape Elizabeth Saturday.
In L.L. all-star softball tourney action, Cape Elizabeth and Augusta came away with first-round wins at the state 9-10 tournament in Portland; Augusta East and Kennebunk each won games at the 11-12 tourney in Winslow, and Saco and Augusta East were winners in senior league action at Winslow.
In the 9-10 tournament, Brewer beat Belfast 23-3 in the winners bracket game and South Portland eliminated Saco 11-4.
In junior league play, Biddeford downed Scarborough 4-0 to win the state championship.
At the senior league tourney, Falmouth beat Auburn 7-1, forcing a playoff for the state title tonight.
In ages 9-10 softball play, Cape Elizabeth outslugged Old Town 17-11 and Augusta downed Sanford 11-2 in first round games. Old Town will take on Sanford and Cape Elizabeth meets Augusta at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
In 11-12 softball action, Augusta East stayed unbeaten with a 24-0 win over Damariscotta and Kennebunk eliminated Bucksport 17-7.
In senior softball play, Saco eliminated Bucksport 10-6 and Augusta East blanked Scarborough 5-0 in second-round action.

Brewer 23, Belfast 3
At Westbrook, after falling behind 3-1, Brewer rallied for eight runs in the fourth inning and then 14 more in the sixth inning for the blowout win.
Josh Kochis sparked the winners with four RBIs on a double and single. Timmy Largay and Joey Milan knocked in three runs apiece while Adam Porter added a two-run double.
For Belfast, Marcus Colby hit an RBI single.

At Belfast, Ryan Giggey pitched a two-hitter and Jeff Parker had three hits, including a three-run homer in the fourth, to lead Belfast to the District 2 title.
Parker also singled twice to pace Belfast. Steve Johnson hit three singles and Bennett struck out nine.
Adam White belted a solo home run for Damariscotta in the fourth.

At Portland, Cape Elizabeth pounded out 17 runs and 15 hits to earn the win.
Margaret Reid paced the winners with two singles and a double. Andrea Skillings added a double and single while Christina Foley collected two singles.
For Old Town, Shannon Cote slugged a triple and singled and Christina Foley scored three runs.

Kennebunk 17, Bucksport 7
At Winslow, Kennebunk put the game out of reach in the fifth inning by scoring eight runs.
Jessica Ham’s double and single led Kennebunk, which also took advantage of nine walks and six hit batsmen. Amanda Gillette stroked an RBI double.
Kelly White hit two singles for Bucksport and Jana Richards cracked a double.

Augusta East 24, Damariscotta 0
At Winslow, Augusta East’s Leslie Purington notched the abbreviated no-hitter, as it took her team just four innings to score 24 runs and win by the 10-run rule.
Natasha Jackson doubled and singled for the winners and Dorise reitchel hit two singles. Purington retired 12 of the 13 batters she faced.

At Winslow, Carrie Howe fashioned a five-hitter with eight strikeouts to lead Augusta East to the win.
Michelle Barry hit two singles for the victors.
For Scarborough, Naria Urran knocked a triple and singled.

At Winslow, Missy Foster’s RBI double scored Sara Gagnon in the top of the eighth inning and it proved to be the winning run.
Eight different players each hit a single to round out Saco’s balanced attack. Marissa Gagnon stole home to add an insurance run in the eighth inning.
Kelly Wardwell doubled for Bucksport.
