MACHIAS — The Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest for a Cadette Girl Scout, has gone to three Machias area girls to recognize their community service projects.

Nettie Kate Jordan designed patterns for cloth panels for the Centre Street Church at the Machias Blueberry Festival. The panels contain drawings that she made for fish chowder, corn on the cob, lobster, a pancake man, soda and blueberry pie.

Meredith Atwood created a magazine card catalog for the Rose M. Gaffney School, listing titles, dates and brief summaries.

Sarah Hewett volunteered at The Ark Animal Shelter in Harrington and donated food and paper towels. She walked dogs, combed cats, played with kittens, and made posters to advertise the shelter.
