ORRINGTON — The Maine Winds, a 30-piece concert band featuring Bangor Symphony Orchestra first trombonist James Trembley, will blow into town on Sunday to highlight the annual Orrington Olde Home Week festivities.
The band will play Sunday at 7 p.m. at the East Orrington Congregational Church.
The group will perform a wide range of music including Souza marches, overtures, show tunes, solos, and Boston Pops-style selections, according to Olde Home Week organizer Glendon Rand.
The event is free, but donations will be accepted to help defray expenses.
The Orrington Olde Home Week actually begins on Saturday, with the “Hands Across the Water” Fields Pond Festival, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event, held at Fields Pond, will include nature tours by the Maine Audubon Society, bird walks, and a nature photography walk. Events will be held on the hour.
Over the course of the week, a number of other special events will be held, including multiple dinners and suppers.
The weeklong event closes down on Saturday, Aug. 19, with a craft fair beginning at 9 a.m. at the Orrington Volunteer Ambulance Service barn on Center Drive; the Olde Home Week parade at 11 a.m. on Route 15, with grand marshal and resident George Hale of WABI leading the way; and, lastly, The Humble Farmer and local entertainers will perform beginning at 7 p.m. at the Enterprise Grange at the corner of Center Drive and Dow Road.
Rand also said that Route 15 will be closed to through traffic during the parade from 10:45 a.m. until noon. Traffic will be rerouted during that time.
However, those wishing to view the parade will be allowed to park their cars on the right-hand side of the road, heading toward Bucksport, from Snows Corner Road up to Payne’s Gardens.
