ROCKLAND — The shoe dropped on three other members of the city police department on Tuesday.

City Manager Cathy Sleeper said three additional officers have been suspended as a result of beer parties held after the Maine Lobster Festival on Aug. 5. On Monday, three officers, including 20-year veteran Lt. Michael Collins were suspended for “prohibited conduct.”

It was reported that six officers, some in uniform, drank beer in the police station parking lot and at Snow Marine Park on Mechanic Street.

The three officers suspended Tuesday initially requested a hearing, which was scheduled for Friday. But on Tuesday, Manager Sleeper announced that the three men had waived their rights. A two-day, unpaid suspension was issued for Sgt. Jeff McGlaughlin, and one day, unpaid suspensions were issued for Detective Edwin Finnegan and patrolman Terry Michaud.

“All of the officers involved have accepted full responsibility and waived a hearing,” said Police Chief Alfred Ockenfels. “We look forward to moving ahead.”

The police chief said a meeting will be called with all officers to review the policies which govern police conduct both on and off duty.

There are 19 full-time officers on the Rockland force.
