Sands paces Ponies Late goal gives Foxcroft Academy 5-4 win

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Seth Sands scored with 3:10 to go in the game to give the Foxcroft Academy Ponies a 5-4 win over Dexter in schoolboy soccer here Wednesday.

Julian Campbell and Mike Blakley each had two gaols apiece for 4-1 Foxcroft Academy. Mike Grant made 15 saves on 24 shots.

Fabian Ference had two goals while Matt Small and Tim Adams each added goals for the 0-4 Tigers. Aaron Sargent made 10 saves on 24 shots.

MCI 3, Rockland 1

At Pittsfield, second-half goals by Lamont Bean, Jeff Giallombardo and Trevor Lykens erased a 1-0 deficit and led MCI to its third win against two losses and a tie. Rockland fell to 1-2-1.

Bean, Khano Smith and Adam Lambert had assists for the winners and Zach Leland stopped three of 14 shots.

Nick Gordon scored for Rockland and Matt Breem stopped eight of 38 shots in goal.

Pine Tree 3, Islesboro 0

At Freeport on Tuesday, host Pine Tree Academy of Freeport earned its first win in thre games, beating Islesboro.

Lakin Wecker, Aaron Robbins and Jared Sabran had the goals for the winners. Mike Kelly made seven saves on 12 shots.

Scott Gallant and Steve Shand combined to make 11 saves on 24 shots for the 0-1 Vikings.

Winslow 4, Mount View 0

At Winslow, Mark Giroux spearheaded the Black Raider attack over the Mustangs.

Giroux had two goals and Anike Oliver added two assists for the 3-1-1 winners. Scott Laliberte, Ryan Bolduc, and Jason Rouch rounded out the scoring ensemble. Goalie Jared Poulin saved eight of 10.

For 2-1-2 Mount View, Andrew Stevenson and Jayson Mitchell combined for 14 saves on 34 shots.

Penquis 3, Greenville 2

At Milo on Tuesday, Jeremy Cole scored off an assist by Chris Cowing with nine seconds left in the first overtime to lift the Patriots to victory.

Cowing finished with a goal and two assists to pace the Patriots, while Levi LeDuc added a goal and an assist. Mike Harris made 12 saves on 20 shots for the 3-2 winners.

Jake Walden had tied it for Greenville on a goal with 3:34 left in regulation. Matt Burgess had the other tally for the 1-1-1 Lakers. Josh Glavine made seven saves on 15 shots.

Girls soccer

Greenville 8, Penquis 1

At Greenville, Tiffany Wallingford, Chelsey Ryder, and Sara Folsom each scored a pair of goals in the midst of a 39-shot attack against Penquis.

Maren Muzzy and Melissa Grenier each added a goal for 5-0 Greenville. Keeper Sara Ward made seven saves on nine shots.

For 2-2 Penquis, Amanda Haskell scored on a penalty kick. Jill Horne made 15 saves on 39 shots.

Mount View 5, Winslow 0

At Thorndike, Cyndi Trapnell made 32 saves in the midst of a 45-shot assault as the Mustangs racked up five goals and the win.

Lasha Keller led 4-0-2 Mount View’s scoring with two goals and an assist. Andrea Cochrane had a goal and two assists, and Shannon Cross and Michelle Ludden each scored once. Leslie Weed recorded an assist.

Mount View keeper Leslie Clifford made two saves on four attempts.

Winslow drops to 0-4-1.

Field hockey

Bangor 4, Hermon 0

At Hermon, Taryn McNichol stopped all six shots she faced to pace the Rams to their first victory.

Becky Rae, Ginger Pressey, Tara Martzial and Nicole Larson scored the goals for 1-3 Bangor.

Erica Brewer made six saves on 1o shots for the 0-4 Hawks.

JV: Bangor 3, Hermon 2

Brewer 3, Hampden 2

At Brewer, Kellee Rowles broke a 2-2 tie with only 2:14 remaining, knocking home the rebound of an Alicia Gilmore shot, to give Brewer its win over Hampden.

Tiffany Carlisle and Gilmore had the other Brewer goals with Stefanie Kunz and Lindsay Reif picking up assists. Tricia Boone made 10 saves for the 3-1 Witches.

Olivia Fitzpatrick scored both Hampden goals and goalie Amy Hafford turned aside seven shots for the 1-3 Broncos.

JV: Hampden 2, Brewer 0

Oak Hill 2, Boothbay 1

At Boothbay Harbor, Jan Raymond pushed in a left-wing cross from Rene Freeman with six minutes left in the game to give the Raiders of Sabattus the victory.

Kris Jipson scored the first goal for the 2-1 Raiders when she converted a penalty stroke with 12 minutes left in the game. Goalie Heather Reed made three saves on four shots.

For 1-4 Boothbay, Sofi Hamrin scored off an Amanda Hodgdon rebound eight minutes into the second half. Goalie Trish Daggett had three saves on seven shots.
