CBA to honor MDI native Ramsdell

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Omaha Racers and Sioux Falls Skyforce of the Continental Basketball Association will play a benefit game in memory of former Mount Desert native and CBA commissioner Jay Ramsdell on Nov. 9.

Proceeds from the “Jay Ramsdell Memorial Game” will benefit the Jay Ramsdell Foundation Scholarship, given annually to the Maine high school senior who best exemplifies the qualities of Ramsdell.

Ramsdell became the youngest commissioner in professional sports history in 1988 at the age of 25. He died in a plane crash in Sioux City, Iowa, less than a year later in 1989.

Rockland High’s Ali Brickel was the 1995 recipient of the Ramsdell Scholarship. To date, the foundation has given $32,500 to Maine students.
