Veteran basketball official Gerry Adams of Houlton has been hired as the interim boys basketball coach at Central Aroostook High School in Mars Hill. He was approved for the position recently by a vote of the SAD 42 bdirectors, according to Central Aroostook principal Roger Shaw.
Adams replaces Steve Shaw, whose contract was not renewed at an Aug. 22 of the SAD 42 board, which represents Mars Hill, Blaine, Bridgewater and E Plantation. Shaw had led the Panthers to a 76-13 record in four seasons, including the 1994 Class D state championship and a pair of other Eastern Maine titles.
While all coaching assignments are made on a yearly basis at CAHS, Shaw explained that Adams’ position was termed interim because of how late it was filled.
Adams, a hair stylist in Houlton, coached the Ashland High School boys team last winter after Peter Belskis resigned early in the season. Adams directed the Hornets to a ???? record…..
In addition, Adams had coached at East Grand of Danforth in the late 1970s and has also coached at the sub-varsity level.
