Black Raiders frustrate Mustangs, 4-3

MOUNT VIEW – The Black Raiders slipped past the Mustangs early to secure Winslow’s 4-3 win despite Ken Buttery’s hat trick.

The Mustangs’ Buttery scored off a Ken Nakamoto assist at 1:38 into the first half. But, Winslow’s Mark Giroux tied it up scoring off a Mark Gunning assist.

At 31:22 in the second half, Gunning put the Black Raiders agoal off a Matt Giroux assist. Then, at 27:45 Jason Rauch increased the lead scoring off a Ryan Bolduc assist. And Scott Laliberte secured it scoring unassisted at 25:53.

In the second half, Buttery scored off a penalty kick and again unassisted in the Mustangs effort.

Rob Bibarelli and Jerod Poolin combined for six saves on 10 shots for 6-4-1 Winslow and Andy Stevenson and Jason Mitchell had 17 saves on 26 shots for 2-7-3 Mount View.

Schenck 2, Katahdin 1 (OT)

At Sherman Station, Erik Giberson scored off an Andy Robinson assist 3:24 into overtime to push Schenck of East Millinocket past host Katahdin.

Tom Jamo scored first for Schenck off a Giberson assist with 57 seconds left in the first half. Sam Shippee scored unassisted to tie the game at 17:29 in the second half.

Scott Mann had 22 saves on 24 shots for 5-2-4 Katahdin and Daren Stanley had 27 saves on 29 shots for 11-2 Schenck.

Rockland 3, MCI 3

At Rockland, Miah Cook’s hat trick kept the Tigers from falling prey to the Huskies.

Adam Lambert led 4-5-3 Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield with a goal and two assists. Jeff Giallombardo had the first of the Huskies’ three first-half goals and added an assist, and Dio Seymour finished off the scoring with his goal. Lamont Bean made five saves on 16 shots.

For 5-3-3 Rockland, Matt Breeen made seven saves on 40 shots.

Hampden 2, Nokomis 1

At Hampden, Mike McInnis scored twice early in the first half to lead the Hampden Academy Broncos to the win.

Matt Knaide and Ryan Janicki each had assists for the 7-4 Broncos and Dan Martin made seven saves on nine shots.

Rob LaBonte scored unassisted and Jon Parker saved 10 of 25 shots for the 5-6 Warriors.

Girls soccer

Penobscot Valley 1, Lee 1 (OT)

At Lee, the Pandas’ Katie Cormier scored unassisted at 1:51 of the second half to secure a tie against Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Jennie Neal scored unassisted for the Howlers at 38:30 in the first half.

Shannon Cole had 23 saves on 30 shots for Lee Academy and Carrie Braley had nine saves on 14 shots for the Howlers.

Penquis 3, Dexter 1

At Milo, Erin Weston scored twice to lead host Penquis to victory over the Tigers.

Amanda Haskell scored a goal and Jill Horne had two assists for the 3-4-4 Patriots. Kristen Demers made 18 saves on 20 shots and stopped a penalty kick.

Lynn Hersey scored on a Sarah DiSotto assist. Kim Burton saved 16 of 27 shots for the 4-2-2 Tigers.

Mount View 6, Winslow 0

At Winslow, Jennie Nevs pulled off a hat trick in the Mustangs’ shutout.

Nevs scored one unassisted goal and one off a Leslie Weed assist in the first half and another goal off a Weed assist in the second half. Weed scored in the first half for Mount View of Thorndike.

Sarah Cole also contributed a goal off a Weed assist and Kali Tomnan scored unassisted.

Leslie Clifford and Angel Brown combined for four saves on seven shots for 8-1-4 Mount View. Cyndi Trapnell had 24 saves on 38 shots for the 0-11-1 Black Raiders.

Field hockey

Mattanawcook 0, Central 0 (OT)

At Lincoln, Red Devils goalie Monica Cookson held off the 4-4-4 Lynx’ advances as she made six saves on nine shots in the deadlocked game.

Mattanawcook Academy’s Angie Brawn did not have to make a save as 2-6-3 Central of East Corinth took only one shot.
