MILFORD — A mobile home on Route 2 in Milford received heavy fire and heat damage in an early morning fire.
Mark Wood, owner of the building, was not at home when the fire broke out shortly after 3 a.m. The fire was reported by several passers-by — a truckdriver and newspaper carrier among them, said Milford Fire Chief Michael Sturgeon on Tuesday.
Sturgeon said the Monday fire appears to have started in the kitchen area at one end of the home, where most of the serious damage was found. The fire spread into the living room during the 15 minutes it took firefighters to travel from Milford and nearby Bradley to extinguish it.
The cause of the fire had not been determined Tuesday, the chief said. He said that the state Fire Marshal’s Office has been asked to investigate.
Sturgeon said firefighters remained on the scene for more than an hour to clean up the site. None of the roughly 20 firefighters who responded were injured.
A damage estimate was not immediately available. Sturgeon said the mobile home, believed to be a mid-1970s model, was insured.
