The play, which is based on fact, examines the ability of people to transcend desperate circumstances and the theater’s potential to change lives. In the play, convicts in the British penal colony of New South Wales, Australia, struggle with their own production of the Farquhar play, “The Recruiting Officer,” and learn valuable lessons in the process.
