SANFORD — Three men face a variety of charges in connection with the rape and beating of a 23-year-old Limington woman in Newfield last spring.
Frank Cunningham, 34, of Amesbury, Mass., was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and gross sexual assault. Gregory Allen Sanborn, 35, of East Parsonsfield, was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault. Corey Sanborn, 23, of South Paris, was charged with gross sexual assault.
The three were indicted Wednesday in York County Superior Court.
When the men were arrested in June, the York County Sheriff’s Department reported that the woman left a Wakefield, N.H., steakhouse with the three men after drinking with them.
The woman told officers that she passed out in the men’s van and awoke to find them assaulting her. She said that when she started screaming, they tossed her out of the moving van.
When the woman went looking for help, the van returned and Cunningham allegedly grabbed her and assaulted her, she told police.
She said her assailant stopped when a car approached.
The woman suffered two cracked ribs and a collapsed lung in the attack, plus scrapes and bruises.
