White sparks Hawks> Hodgdon hold off Fort Fairfield for 54-50 win

FORT FAIRFIELD – Jeremy White nailed 4 of 4 free throws in the last minute to give the Hodgdon Hawks a 54-50 schoolboy basketball victory over the Fort Fairfield Tigers Tuesday night.

Sam Henderson paced the winners with 27 points, 17 in the first half.

Jon Nichols and Don DeMerchant each scored 12 points in Fort’s balanced attack which featured six 3-pointers in the second half as the Tigers shot over the Hawks’ zone defense. Dave Bernard added 11 and Aaron McGinnis put in 10.

At Washburn, junior center Trent Cunningham scored 14 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out eight assists to lead the Beavers to the win.

Trevor Collins scored a game-high 19 points for Washburn and Nick Thompson added 14.

For Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook, Brad Jones and Rick Lane scored 15 points apiece. Nick Russell chipped in with 11.

At Calais, senior Robbie Worcester scored a game-high 33 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter, as Narraguagus pulled away for the win over Calais.

Worcester also grabbed nine rebounds for the winners, who rallied from a three-point third quarter deficit, and Nick Lyford and Chad Dorr had 18 points apiece.

Bob MacMannis scored 23 points for Calais while George Sabattus contributed 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Lucas Reardon had 15 points and Maurice DeVoe had 10 more.

At Lee Academy, Mike Harris hit back-to-back 3-pointers with less than three minutes to go to put the Patriots of Milo up for good.

With less than three minutes to go Penquis was ahead 42-41 when Harris sunk two from 3-point range to give the Patriots a seven-point lead. Harris finished with 16 points.

Chris Cowling chipped in with 21 points and 11 rebounds and Brian Heal finished with 17 points.

For Lee Academy, George Bunker had 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
