Rams survive Wildcat fight for second win

PRESQUE ISLE – Jason St. Pierre’s basket with a minute remaining gave Bangor a 47-46 lead, forcing the Wildcats into fouling and Tom Waterman delivered from the line with three free throw points for Bangor’s 52-46 win against Presque Isle in schoolboy basketball Saturday night.

St. Pierre led all scorers with 15 points, and Waterman accumulated seven of his 11 points in going seven-for-nine from the foul line. Gavin McCarthy added 10 points.

For Presque Isle, Kasey Keenan hit four 3-pointers on his way to 14 points.

At Howland, junior guard Erin Smith scored 12 of his team-high 19 points in the second quarter as Mattanawcook Academy outscored host Penobscot Valley 22-7 and it proved to be the difference.

Luke Libbey added 12 points for the winners and Nathan Rosenbeck 11.

For Penobscot Valley, Corey Fleming pumped in 22 points while Jeremy Sweet chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.

At Woodland Friday, Tony Robb scored 26 points, 10 in the final quarter, and Jeremy MacArthur added 20, 13 in the third quarter, to fuel a Woodland comeback victory.

MacArthur also had 14 rebounds, Robb 12, and Brian McArthur 11 for the unbeaten Dragons.

For the Blue Devils, George Sabattus and Lucas Reardon each scored 18 points and Bob MacMannis had 10.

At Ellsworth, the Crusaders outscored the Eagles 15-8 in the final quarter to earn a Saturday schoolboy victory 61-48.

Randy Buswell paced the Bapst scoring attack with a game-high 31 points and Josh Young netted nine.

For Ellsworth, Phil Hodgkins tossed in 19 points, including three from behind the three-point stripe. Nick Smith and Matt McDonald each added 10.

At Old Town, Lars Wikstrom hit two free throws with eight seconds remaining, accounting for his only points of the game, while lifting the Indians to victory.

Corey Thibodeau paced a balanced Old Town effort with 21 points, while Joe Mannisto tossed in 13, Ryan Miller 10 and Chad Hayes 10.

Brett Doody paced Caribou with a game-high 25 points, whiel Ryan Soucie and Scott Raymond added 12 and 10, respectively.

At the Bangor Auditorium, the Pioneers raced out to a first-quarter 18-point lead and never looked back in taking the win.

Tracy Guerrette scored 28 points Michelle Ouellette added nine points for Wisdom of Saint Agatha.

For Bangor Christian, Rachel Sobey poured in 28 points and Heide Niles scored 10 points.

At Presque Isle, junior forward Kim Condon scored 21 points, dished out seven assists and made seven steals to power the host Wildcats to their first win.

Rachel Underwood added 20 points for Presque Isle, now 1-1.

For 2-1 Bangor, Katie Clark poured in a game-high 29 points.

At Howland, Laura LaVallee sank 17 of 22 free throws on her way to a game-high 21 points to pace the win for visiting Mattanawcook Academy.

Missy Jandreau added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Lynx.

Sophomore forward Jennie Neal led Penobcot Valley with 17 points. Jessica Potter chipped in with 10 points and Jamie Pelletier grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

At Alfond Arena, the (2-0) Clippers scored three goals in the first period to put away the (0-2) host Indians.

Ian Michaud paced NYA with a goal and an assist. Michaud set up a goal by Brad Richards. Obie Spear, Pat Martin and Nick Pires all chipped in a goal apiece for the winners. Goalie Geramiah Chase turned back 19 of 20 Old Town attempts.

Adam King tallied the lone goal unassisted for Old Town as Jeremy Smith rejected 29 of the 34 shots he faced.
