Collier’s hoop lifts Warriors

DYER BROOK – Kim Collier picked up a pass that was deflected by Janna Walker and scored a layup with six seconds left to give host Southern Aroostook a 40-39 schoolgirl basketball victory over Washburn here Friday night.

Walker finished with 14 points and Brittany White chipped in 12 for the winners.

Courtney Flewelling led Washburn with 11 points and Megan Thomas had 10.

At Houlton, Presque Isle spotted Houlton six points in the first minute before outscoring the Shires 50-30 the rest of the way.

Kim Condon’s game-high 23 points led the winners, who forced numerous turnovers with their full-court press.

Jennifer Bell had 11 points for Houlton and Stephanie McCarthy had nine.
