Man pleads guilty to Valley burglaries

CARIBOU — A former St. John Valley man who went on a burglary and theft spree for six months last year pleaded guilty Friday to more than half of the charges levied against him.

The remaining counts against Jean B. Hebert, 33, were dismissed in Aroostook County Superior Court.

Hebert, who now lives in Stockholm, had been charged with 19 counts related to burglaries and theft from Madawaska to New Sweden. He will be sentenced by Justice Paul T. Pierson after a presentence investigation into Hebert’s background.

Deputy District Attorney John Pluto recommended that Hebert be sentenced to 16 years in prison with all but eight years suspended. Hebert also would be on probation for four years, under Pluto’s recommendation.

Conditions of the proposed probation include Hebert paying restitution of up to $100,000 and that he cooperate with authorities on six unsolved crimes.

Also pleading guilty Friday was Christina Noll, now known as Christina Hebert, the wife of Jean Hebert.

Mrs. Hebert, 21, was charged with theft in connection with taking four snowmobiles on a trailer in Madawaska. She also will be sentenced at a later date.

Jean Hebert also pleaded guilty to that particular charge of theft.

Sites of the burglaries and thefts to which Hebert pleaded guilty were Bob’s Service Center and Larry’s Service Center, both of Madawaska; Van Buren Tulsa, New Sweden Service Inc., and several privately owned buildings in St. Agatha, Madawaska, Frenchville and Grand Isle.

Hebert also pleaded guilty to altering the serial numbers on a snowmobile.

Hebert’s lawyer was Richard Dubois of Madawaska. Mrs. Hebert was represented by Jefferson Ashby of Presque Isle.
