Rapid response cited in St. Albans house fire

ST. ALBANS — Quick response by St. Albans firefighters Friday night may have saved the Donald Stanley home on the Grant Road from significant damage.

The situation appeared much worse when firefighters arrived than it actually was, according to Capt. Jason Emery, who said the station received a report at about 7:30 p.m. of a structure fire.

Emery concluded that a spark from the chimney may have ignited the roof, since it appears the fire burned from the outside in.

Damage was confined to a roof and attic over the kitchen. Some water damage also occurred. The Stanleys and their two children were able to remain in the home Friday night.

Firefighters remained at the scene for about an hour.

The St. Albans Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from the Hartland department.
