MONTREAL – Senior left winger Tony Frenette scored a pair of goals and assisted on another as the University of Maine’s Black Bears built a 7-0 lead after two periods and cruised to an 8-3 win over Concordia University here Wednesday evening.
The win capped Maine’s six-games-in-eight-days exhibition tour of Canadian universities with a perfect 6-0 record.
Frenette scored the first and last goals during a four-goal first period by the Bears. His goals sandwiched scores by Brad Purdie and Paul Zinchenko as the Bears racked up 28 shots on goal.
Steve Kariya, Scott Parmentier and Dan Shermerhorn scored in the second period and Leo Wlasow added a third-period goal.
Maine went 4-for-10 on the power play.
Daniel Queenton, Patrick Lamoureux and Eric Nadeau scored for Concordia.
Blair Allison made 31 saves for the Bears while Daniel Gagnon and Christian Dutil combined for 51 saves for the Stingers.
