Gardner’s 6 points in OT lifts Orono

BUCKSPORT – Susan Gardner scored six of her 19 points in overtime to help Orono edge Bucksport, 60-59, in schoolgirl basketball action Saturday.

Heather Dekanich made 11 of 13 from the line in her 17-point performance and Beth Gagnon had 12 points in the effort.

Bucksport’s offense also turned out a balanced effort as Christy Grover scored 19 points, Richelle Downes had 17, including three 3-pointers, and Christina Wheeler had 13. Grover also pulled down nine rebounds.

Erin Weston turned in 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the winners.

Katie Lawler also netted 12 points and Megan Goggins added 10 for the winners.

Louanne Jensen tossed in 10 points to pace the Huskies.

At Wentworth Gym in Millinocket, Liza Doughty stole a pass and scored on a layup with :35 left in the game to put Hermon up 58-57.

The Minutemen did not connect on the next trip down the floor and Doughty grabbed the rebound and was fouled. She then hit both foul shots to seal the game for Hermon.

Doughty finished with a game-high 37 points for the winners.

Cara Moir’s 18 points led Stearns and Shannon Boynton and Nicole Ryan each chipped in 13 points apiece.

At Hampden, the host Broncos outscored Presque Isle 23-6 in the second quarter, after trailing 16-10, and it proved to be the difference in the win.

Amy-Jo Crawford and Amanda Rodgerson led a balanced Hampden scoring attack with 14 points each. Six-foot-one center Jessica Hopkins added 13 points and 13 rebounds. Rodgerson also had a team-high 15 rebounds.

Kim Condon paced Presque Isle with 17 points.
