WATERVILLE – UM-Presque Isle and UM-Farmington each picked up wins in the Maine Event basketball tournament played at Colby College Monday.

UMPI defeated Westbrook 80-67 and UMF beat Thomas 89-81.

Monday’s second game saw UM-Presque Isle place five players in double figures as the Owls downed Westbrook.

Simon Mithchell and Pierre Michaud led the Owls with 15 points each. Zachery Morrow and Glenn Sharp chipped in 13 and Willie Rivera notched 11.

For Westbrook, Derek Vogel hit for 16, Eric Werntgen had 15, Bob Davis tossed in 13 and Chris Lodes tossed in 11.

In Monday’s first game, Laughn Berthiaume scored a game-high 23 points as UM-Farmington picked up the victory over Thomas.

Matt Cousins notched 16 while Lance Meader and Derek Scott each had 15 for the Beavers.

Wade Plummer and Mason Dixon led Thomas with 19 point efforts.
