Windjammers win on half-court shot

BUCKSPORT – Peter Masin-Peters gathered in an inbounds pass with three seconds left and nailed a half-court 3-pointer to give the Camden-Rockport Windjammers a 70-69 schoolboy basketball victory over the Bucksport Golden Bucks Friday night.

Masin-Peters finished with 23 points, while Ben Luce and Nathan Travers netted 10 points each for the Windjammers.

Jody Peak hit a 12-footer with three seconds left to give Bucksport the lead. Chris Soper paced the Golden Bucks with 23 points. Greg Gobel and Steve Smith pitched in with 18 and 12 points, respectively.

At Thorndike, Ken Buttery scored six of the Mustangs’ nine points in the second overtime to spark the victory.

Buttery’s heroics offset several by Hermon’s Steve Tweedie, who finished with 36 points. Tweedie nailed a 3-pointer with two seconds left to send the game to the first overtime. He also nailed a half-court shot to end the third quarter.

Buttery finished with 23 points for the winners, Lewis Henry put in 22, and Dave Clark netted 10.

Ken Peterson scored 13 for Hermon, and Shawn Smith added 10.

At East Sullivan, Robbie Worcester set the example for the Knights of Harrington at the free-throw line as he hit 18 of 19 en route to a game-high 39 points. The Knights hit 31 of 36 free throws as a team, far outpacing host Sumner, which was 11 for 17.

Eric Benge added 20 points for Narraguagus in the fast-paced game, and Colie Haskell and Jared Look popped in 12 each.

Adam Knowlton powered the Tigers with 23 points, Davey Seward hit for 16, and Chris Carter had a dozen.

At Wentworth Gymnasium in Millinocket, junior John Montgomery sparked a 28-15 third-quarter barrage, scoring 17 of his 29 points and pulling down seven of his 10 rebounds, as host Stearns knocked the Wolverines from the ranks of the unbeaten.

Steve Osborne added 17 points, 10 rebounds, and eight steals for the winners, while Shaun Illingworth netted 17 points.

Tom Jamo had 29 points and Eric Giberson added 11 for Schenck of East Millinocket.
