NEWBURGH — Three would-be burglars were arrested Monday night after eluding police for more than four hours in a wild foot-chase.
Dispatcher Andrew Whitehouse of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said a burglary was reported in progress at 4:15 p.m. at a residence on the North Road. The three suspects, two adult males and a male juvenile, fled the scene on foot when the occupants of the residence returned home.
Police refused Monday night to release the names of the suspects or the name of the occupants of the home.
One of the suspects was apprehended at 7:45 p.m. near Interstate 95 in Hampden. The two others were able to elude police from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department, the Maine State Police and the Hampden Police Department for an additional two hours before being arrested at 9:45 p.m. on Interstate 95 in Hampden.
Whitehouse said 10 to 12 officers were involved in the hunt, and a dog from the Maine Sate Police.
