Olson sparks Tiger victory> Third-quarter binge turns tide

DEXTER – Brad Olson scored 18 points to lead the Dexter Tigers to a 55-51 schoolboy basketball win over Maine Central Institute Wednesday night in a battle between teams fighting for a tourney berth.

Olson scored nine in the third quarter as Dexter outscored MCI 23-12 to erase a seven-point halftime deficit.

MCI was ranked seventh and Dexter eleventh in the most recent Class B Heal Point standings.

James Kirk had six of his eight points in the third period for the winners.

Olson finished with 15 rebounds. Aaron Sargent had 11 points and four assists and Josh Annis scored nine points.

Paul Collins’ 14 points and Jason Cummings’ 12 led MCI.

At the Bangor Auditorium, the Crusaders blew it open with a 19-7 third quarter in earning their tenth win.

Matt Zamejtis-Brown scored 16 points to lead John Bapst as the Crusaders put 12 of 15 players into the scoring column.

Brock Hartford poured in 16 points for the Ponies.

At Howland, senior guard Corey Fleming lit it up for 29 points and made six steals to lead host Penobscot Valley to the win.

Jeremy Sweet provided 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Howlers.

Shawn King paced Piscataquis Community High of Guilford with 19 points and eight rebounds. Troy Gilbert chipped in with 14 points and Ryan White had 12 and eight rebounds. Nate Larson added 11 points.

At North Yarmouth, David Johnson and Bunky Johnsen each scored first period goals to help the 8-2 Clippers take the win.

Matt Greason added an empty-net goal in the third period for North Yarmouth Academy and A.C. Colello made 23 saves in the nets.

Erik Nadeau scored the lone goal for Waterville, now 9-2. Goalie Adam Beeh made 19 stops.
