Norman and Peg Clark of Waverly Avenue in Pittsfield are holding a vigil at their son Darren’s hospital bed in Florida this week, as they wait for the young man to awaken from a coma.
Clark, 20, was critically injured Tuesday when he received a severe electrical shock at a construction site. According to his uncle, James Ricker of Plymouth, Clark had only arrived in Florida two weeks ago. “He was doing very, very well and had been calling his parents and reporting that he was happy,” said Ricker.
But on Tuesday, Ricker said, Clark was holding a cable attached to a crane. “It was his job to hook the cable line to the trusses,” said Ricker. The crane operator struck an overhead power line during the maneuver, nearly electrocuting the Maine man.
Clark was listed in critical but stable condition Friday at Tampa General Hospital’s burn unit.
