ELLSWORTH — The Hancock County Children’s Council seeks nominations for the 1996 Nancy Gentile Award, given in memory of a woman who was killed in an automobile accident in 1987.

Gentile worked 15 years to end violence against women and children; served as director of the Spruce Run women’s shelter, president of Hancock County Children’s Council, and director of Parents Anonymous of Maine; and helped mobilize members of the community.

The award was established to continue her memory and encourage those who share the qualities she shared with others. Nominees should show exceptional interest and vitality in defense of human rights and recognition of self-worth. For nomination forms, contact the Hancock County Children’s Council, P.O. Box 1087, c/o Downeast Health Services, Ellsworth 04605.
