4-year-old killed in crash on ice-covered Route 202

ALFRED — A 4-year-old girl was killed in a head-on crash on ice-covered Route 202, authorities said.

The accident occurred Saturday morning about one mile east of the Sanford line when a car driven by Jeffrey Provost, 32, of Sanford skidded from the eastbound side across the road into the westbound lane and collided with another car driven by Wendy Daudelin, 28, of Waterboro, the York County Sheriff’s Department said.

Killed was Kayla Daudelin, the only passenger in her mother’s car.

Wendy Daudelin was treated at Goodall Hospital for minor injuries, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Provost and his two passengers were expected to be treated at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford and released, authorities said.

The Sheriff’s Department said an investigation was continuing, but that criminal charges were not expected. Authorities said weather conditions were a “major factor.”
