PITTSFIELD — Nomination papers were returned last week for positions in Hartland, Palmyra and St. Albans that are up for election during the annual March voting.

Each of the towns will elect one representative to the SAD 48 board of directors. Only one of the races for three-year positions is uncontested. In St. Albans, Ron Fowle is the only director who is running for re-election. He is the only candidate. In Hartland and Palmyra, veteran directors are facing challengers. Dorothy Humphrey in Hartland is being challenged for her position by Richard Davis. In Palmyra, Bonnie Brown will be challenged by Ronald Curtis.

For the first time in many years, Hartland’s veteran First Selectman Edward Laughton will be challenged in the annual elections by political newcomer Dale Hubbard. Second Selectman Keith Bubar faces re-election without a challenger. Shirley Humphrey is seeking election to the third selectman’s post being vacated by Sandra McNichol. Joyce Halford, town clerk, is running unopposed.

Palmyra politics is generating a three-way race for two openings on the board of selectmen. Incumbents Mathys Van Dam and Priscilla Jones are seeking re-election, but share the race with Dean Cray. Dan Sprague is running unopposed for a one-year term to complete the unexpired term created by Victor Kimball’s resignation.

Last year’s political turmoil in St. Albans apparently has settled and all incumbents are seeking re-election without opposition. Harlan Cooper, Marian Spalding and David Bubar are running for re-election to the board of selectmen; Ron Finson for road commissioner and Stacey Desrosiers for town clerk.

Elections in Hartland and St. Albans are scheduled for Friday, March 1. Palmyra elections are scheduled for Saturday, March 9.
