Tobin to try for seat in District 126

DEXTER — James H. Tobin Jr. of Dexter has filed nomination papers for the state District 126 House seat.

Tobin, a Republican, has been a resident of Dexter for 28 years, and was formerly director of the vocational high school. He is the owner of the Silver Needle Nursery Christmas Tree Farm in Ripley.

Tobin holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Worcester State College and a certificate of advanced study from the University of Maine. He was director of the Dexter Regional Vocational Center for 17 years. Before that, he was dean of continuing education at Eastern Maine Technical College. Tobin is a Vietnam veteran and is a retired lieutenant commander in the United States Coast Guard.

He is married to Patricia Ann Tobin, a registered nurse at Mayo Regional Hospital. They have three children.

Tobin states that he would strive to continue to downsize state government and to lower taxes. He says that he believes there is an urgent need to find alternative ways to fund education other than through local property taxes. He states that he would encourage responsible parenting legislation and expand economic development through enhancing the climate for small businesses.
