ORONO — “Active Community Training I (Act I) for Economic Justice” will present Dr. Felice Yeskel and a workshop, “Share the Wealth,” which will deal with income inequality in the United States.
The event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Memorial Union at the University of Maine at Orono.
After the workshop, a strategy planning session and concert with Solstice will be held. Solstice is a Maine trio that performs songs about the environment, relationships, social conscience, and justice, done in a folk style but often taking from jazz and blues traditions, organizers said.
Songs of Ferron, Pete Seeger, Si Kahn, Holly Near, and Rogers and Hammerstein are among the group’s repertoire.
Sponsors of the workshop include the Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine, Social Work Department at UMaine, Women’s Resource Center, UMaine, the Maine Peace Action Committee, Women in the Curriculum of UMaine, PICA, Greater Bangor NOW, Institute for Non-violent Education, Research and Training, the Maine Association of Interdependent Neighborhoods, the Coalition for Economic Justice, and Peace Action Maine.
