BANGOR – Freshman forward Carl Howell scored a career-high 30 points, including 20 in the second half, and also grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds to lead St. Joseph’s College of Standish to an 82-68 win over UMaine-Presque Isle in the Maine Athletic Conference men’s basketball championship game at the Bangor Auditorium.

John Wassenbergh contributed 18 points and Kyle Sewer had 17 for St. Joseph’s, which outscored UMPI 23-12 to to break a halftime deadlock and build a 50-39 lead and UMPI could get no closer than eight the rest of the way.

For UMPI, Pierre Michaud had 25 points and Glenn Sharp had 14.
