The story of the loss of a teacher’s purse with $8,300 in it has a happy ending. Eileen Gibb’s purse, which turned up missing on Feb. 18, was later found in her classroom at Fruit Street School.
Gibb had been packing her belongings that Sunday in order to move to Oregon with her husband, Ken, the former director of community and economic development for the city of Bangor.
When she couldn’t find her purse, she assumed it had been stolen from her car, which was parked in front of the school. The purse contained $300 in cash, four credit cards and a bank check made out for $8,000. Gibb reported the loss to Bangor police, but nothing turned up.
According to school Principal Dan Lee, the purse was later found in the classroom by custodian James Moody.
