A stinky cigar

One of Maine’s most respected citizens has died. Edmund S. Muskie will most certainly be missed. He teaches so many of us in so many ways. He deserves all the tributes we will hear or read about him.

Knowing the Bangor Daily News would have a quality writeup, I looked forward to Wednesday’s paper. Good articles? Yes. Dignified photo? Oops! Don’t tell me this is the best you could do. The picture of our former governor, senator and secretary of state should have been one of the highly regarded statesman we had all come to know. The man with the stinky cigar between his teeth was not the typical Muskie, whatever his personal habits may have been.
