Two people were killed in separate highway accidents in Waldo County during the weekend.
A Thomaston woman was killed and two men injured when their vehicle overturned in Belfast early Saturday morning.
Holly Roscoe, 33, was pronounced dead at Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast shortly after the 3 a.m. accident on Kaler Road. Frank Roscoe, 35, is in serious condition at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with head and back injuries. Kevin Ilvonen, 34, also of Thomaston, was treated for minor injuries at the Belfast hospital and released.
According to Belfast police, the 1987 Chevrolet pickup truck swerved off the rural road and rolled over, ejecting all three from the vehicle. Although the investigation is continuing, police believe speed and alcohol were factors. It has not yet been determined who was driving or who owns the vehicle.
Driver inexperience is believed to be the cause of an accident that killed one teen-ager and injured another in Frankfort Saturday night.
Jason Kneeland, 16, of Stockton Springs was killed when the car he was driving overturned on Logging Road at about 7:40 p.m. His passenger, Meghan Lavway, 15, of Frankfort, was hospitalized with bruises but is reported to be in good condition.
Kneeland’s 1991 Oldsmobile crossed over into the oncoming lane, hit a culvert and flipped over, ejecting both teens from the car. Waldo County Deputy Sheriff Ben Seekins said the cause of the accident appeared to be Kneeland’s inexperience as a driver, adding that neither alcohol nor speed was a factor.
