Here’s a brilliant, colorful idea for Easter egg decorations that are edible.
RAINBOW NEST EGGS
Eggs A 6-inch square of thin cotton cloth or cheesecloth for each egg Twist ties, strings or rubber bands Food coloring Lots of newspapers covering work area
Hard cook the eggs, keeping the carton for drying and storage. Wet a piece of the cloth with water and wring it out so it remains damp. Wrap the cloth around the egg, either twisting loosely and fastening it at both ends, or bundling the edges together and fastening them at the top.
Using food coloring directly from the container, place drops of coloring on the cloth-wrapped egg in circles, stripes or other patterns. Repeat with other colors, if you like. Twist the cloth more tightly around the egg so the colors run together to produce a rainbow swirl of color. Unwrap the egg to see what’s happened.
Set the finished eggs back in the carton to dry. Refrigerate.
