MARS HILL – Graham Sayers stayed in a rundown between first and second just long enough to allow Joe Solomon to score the go-ahead run from third base in the top of the seventh inning as Fort Fairfield edged Central Aroostook 2-1 in schoolboy baseball action Monday.

The Tigers’ Dave Bernard outdueled the Panthers’ Chad Boyd for the win, scattering four hits and two walks to go along with 13 strikeouts. Boyd allowed three hits and five walks and he struck 11.

Mitch Orser hit a solo home run for Central Aroostook.

At Woodland, Josh Thornton scored on Ryan Thornton’s ground ball to third base with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh as the Dragons upended the Knights.

Josh Thornton finished with a double, two singles and an RBI. Brian Benson singled and drove in a run. Winner Randy Mercier struck out six and walked one.

For Narraguagus of Harrington, Eric Benge and Mike Worcester had RBI doubles. Starter Robbie Worcester pitched into the sixth, striking out nine and walking 12.

At East Machias, Jim Albert’s two-run home run was the difference for Washington Academy of East Machias.

Mike Fergerson added a two-run double for the winners. Pitcher Glen Wood got the win Eric Smith struck out the last two Tiger batters to earn the save.

Jason Soule hit two doubles and Justin Carter knocked in two runs on a single for Sumner of East Sullivan.

At Van Buren, Ben Smith drove in three runs with a pair of singles as the Crusaders beat the Hornets.

Tim Tardie rapped a pair of singles for Ashland.

Marcus Bernier hit two singles for Limestone and Kellen Hutchins stroked a two-run single.

At Washburn, the Panthers exploded for 12 runs in the second inning to earn the win.

Todd Collier drove in four runs on a double and a single, Nick Russell hit two singles and a triple, and Sam Michaud added two singles and three RBIs for Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook.

For Washburn, Wade Willette doubled and Bill Tasker added a single.

At Houlton, Andy Wright earned the win by homering in his third consecutive game and striking out five Wildcat batters.

Tim Underwood blasted a three-run home run and Mark Yaegar ripped a three-run triple for the Wildcats.

At Lee, Charles Aldrich hit an RBI groundout to score Derek Dicker with the tying run and then a few plays later pinch-runner Randy Dicker came home with the winning run from third base on a balk – all in the bottom of the seventh inning – as Lee Academy rallied for the win.

Jay Corbin pace Lee with two singles and Derek Dicker hit a two-run homer. Winning pitcher Ryan Osgood went the distance and struck out 11.

For Katahdin of Sherman Station, Josh Lyons stroked two doubles and a single for three RBIs. Luke Cullins hit a two-run homer and two singles.

At Dexter, Peter Munn drove in three runs with a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly, and Barry Terrill threw six innings of three-hit ball as the Red Riots earned the victory.

Terrill struck out six, while Jason Myers struck out four in two hitless innings of relief. Chris Crockett ripped a pair of singles and drove in two runs for Orono.

Alex Claverie singled twice for Dexter.

At Mount Desert Island, Greg Gobel hit two doubles, a triple and drove in four runs to lead the Golden Bucks to the victory.

Steve Smith chipped in with two singles for Bucksport.

For MDI, Joe Morrison rapped a two-run double and Jerry Burns hit two singles.

At Rockland, Matt Gunning pitched a five-hitter with 12 strikeouts to lead Winslow to the win.

Erik Gunning slugged a three-run homer and Joel Fernald added a two-run homer for the Black Raiders. Seth Karter chipped in with a three-run double while Jared Vigue and Jason Rauch each hit a double and a single.

For Rockland, Travis Reynolds hit two singles and Cam Brown hit an RBI double.

At Newport, Dennis Roy hit two doubles, two singles and drove in two runs to lead Brewer to victory over Nokomis of Newport.

Troy Corey added three singles for the Witches and Don Sawyer stroked a pair of doubles. Jason Hardy hit two singles good for two RBIs.

For Nokomis, which was plagued by seven errors, Danny Leadbetter and Jerrid Otis each hit a double and a single. Jason Hewitt collected an RBI double.

At Searsport, Matt Cox pitched a three-hitter, striking out 15 along the way, as the Vikings beat the Patriots.

Matt Lang backed Cox with a solo home run and two singles, while George Tripp and Steve Johndro each contributed a double and a single. Searsport scored five runs in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Gabe Perrow had an RBI single for Bangor Christian behind loser Ryan Mick, who fanned 12.

At Ellsworth, four Eagles pitchers combined on a no-hitter as Ellsworth improved to .500.

Phil Hodgkins, Lucas Hardison and Carl Facciolo pitched two innings apiece, then Nick St. Pierre finished up in the seventh. The quartet struck out eight and walked three.

Matt McDonald led Ellsworth with a double, single and four runs scored, with Ben Donaldson adding three hits and two RBIs. Hodgkins added two hits and three RBIs and Chris Massengale chipped in with a double and a single.
