Hanning hurls Hodgdon past Caribou again> Freshman shuts out Vikings

HODGDON – Freshman Gerry Hanning hurled his second consecutive shutout of Caribou as Hodgdon turned back the Vikes 6-0 in schoolboy baseball play Tuesday.

Hanning allowed five hits, three walks and struck out two to earn the win. Adam Carter blasted a two-run home run and a double and Gerri Welton added a double and a single for the winners.

Ryan Thibodeau and Mark Beaulieu paced Caribou with a double each.

At Mars Hill, Todd Collier tossed a four-hitter, striking out nine and walking two, and nailed a pair of triples to key the Warriors of Dyer Brook to the win.

Marc Philibert added a single and a sacrifice fly for Southern Aroostook.

Central Arooostook’s Chad Boyd was the hard-luck loser, striking out 14 and walking just three in a four-hitter of his own. Boyd is now 1-2, but has struck out 34 batters in his three decisions.

Ryan Guerrette knocked in two runs with a pair of suicide squeeze bunts for the Panthers.

At Ashland, Jon Nichols stroked three singles and drove in two runs to lead Fort Fairfield to another win.

Don DeMerchant added two singles and two RBIs for the Tigers while Pete Solomon doubled and singled.

For the Ashland Hornets, Aaron Bennett hit three singles and Ethan Perry had two singled and three RBIs. Ethan Perry drove in the other two runs with two singles.

At Fort Kent, Travis Lajoie, Corey Searles and Lee Morin each hit a home run to power the Van Buren Crusaders to the win.

Lajoie and Morin also each hit a single and Hank Sirois hit three singles.

For Fort Kent, Eric Raymond belted two home runs and Ryan Nicholas hit a homer and a single. Shawn Theriault doubled and singled.

At East Machias, sophomore righty Glen Wood fired a four-hitter and aided his own cause with a three-run homer to lead Washington Academy past Calais.

Wood struck out nine and walked two and the only run off him was unearned.

Wood belted his homer in the five-run first inning. All five runs were unearned.

Alan Taylor went 4-for-5 for the winners with a double and an RBI.

Mike Fletcher had two base hits for Calais.

At Washburn, Jeff Michaud hit a two-run homer and a double and Andy Soucy had a solo blast and a triple to key Wisdom’s 15-hit attack which enabled the Pioneers to erase 4-0 and 7-3 deficits.

Wade Willette hit a two-run double for Washburn.

Tim Pert belted a solo home run and a single for the winners as Dave Rackliffe chipped in a double and a single.

Mike Worcester blasted a solo home run for Narraguagus and Mickey Willey and Robbie Worcester rapped two singles apiece.

At Danforth, Derek Golding knocked in four runs with a double and a triple as East Grand notched its first win.

For Shead of Eastport, John Barnes stroked three doubles good for three RBIs. Jacob Mumme added two singles and a double.

At Bangor, Adam Zaitz held Sumner of East Sullivan to four hits over seven innings and he struck out seven along the way to help John Bapst claim the win.

Mike Brockett, MIke Mulaney, Joel Perry and Zaitz had two hits apiece to pace the Crusders. Brockett and Mulaney also had three RBIS each.

For Sumner, Pat Ford, Travis Bickford, Alex Williams and Erik Dougan each collected a single.

At Hermon, the Golden Bucks got a steady pitching performence from Matt Keene to notch the schoolboy victory.

Keene pitched a complete game, allowing six hits, striking out eight, and walking none. Greg Gobel rapped two singles and an RBI for the winners.

Justin Perry belted a solo home run to pace the Hawks and Jameine Chambers and Eric Reynolds chipped in a double apiece.

At Dover-Foxcroft, John Smith hit two singles and drove in two runs to lead Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln to the win.

Luke Libbey added two singles for the Lynx and Brian Greenlaw hit a two-run single.

For Foxcroft Academy, Seth Sands hit two singles.

At Sherman Station, Darren Stanley’s one-hopper to pitcher Willie Sleeper was good enough to bring in Chad Michaud and provide the Wolverines a nine-inning win.

Stanley finished with three RBIs, and Michaud had two singles for Schenck of East Millinocket. Erik Giberson belted three singles.

David Brawn drove in three runs with two singles for Katahdin.

At Winslow, Dickie Gould went 5-for-5, including a double, and Gregg Bouchard drove in four runs with two doubles and two singles to pace a 20-hit attack that led Belfast past Winslow, snapping Winslow’s nine-game winning streak.

Roland Littlefield and Gerald Hews had a double and a single apiece for the winners. Chris Maheux, Joe Holmes and winning pitcher Albert Edwards had a pair of base hits each. Maheux had two RBIs.

Edwards went the distance for the win. It was Belfast’s first win in three games against Winslow.

Randy Loubier had three hits for Winslow. Joel Fernald doubled and singled and Pat McDonald and Seth Karter each singled twice.

At Hampden, Donnie Sawyer had a homer and threr rolled to a blowout win.

Dakota Therrien added three singles and drove in four runs and the Witches got two singles each from Dennis Roy, Mike Kane and Aaron Largay.

Hampden’s Shane McDougel had two singles and an RBI.

At Ellsworth, three pitchers combined to four-hit Orono and four batters hit two singles each as the Eagles used a balanced effort to soar to the win.

Matt McDonald, Troy McDonald, Chris McDonald and Chris Massengale each hit two singles to pace Ellsworth. Phil Hodgkins, Luke Hardison and Jason Nyby collaborated on the four-hitter with Hardison earning the victory.

For Orono, Robey Rhoads stroked an RBI double and two singles.

At Dexter, the Red Devils rapped five of their eight hits and scored seven runs in the top half of the first inning to give pitcher Kale La Ladd fired a three-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks. Ladd helped himself with the bat as he ripped two singles and an RBI. Ed Houston also had two singles for the winners.

Nathan Connors ripped an RBI-single to lead Dexter and Dan Welch and Loni Levensalor added a single apiece.
