EAST CORINTH – Angela Allen’s sacrifice fly with one out in the sixth inning delivered Marie Cookson with the winning run as the Central Red Devils defeated Mattanawcook Academy 4-3 in schoolgirl softball action Friday.

Cookson had reached on an infield error and been chased to third by a Jenn Bailey single.

Joy Allen went the distance for the win, scattering five hits while striking out five and walking three.

Teresa Dow had an RBI triple for Central and Allen aided her own cause with a run-scoring single.

Abbie Pickering and Angie Brawn had two singles each for Mattanawcook.

Stearns 3, Bucksport 2

At Millinocket, Angela Philbrook’s two-run single tied the game in the fifth and her RBI single in the seventh lifted Stearns to the win.

Winning pitcher Sarah Kittrick struck out six while giving up five hits and not walking a batter.

Bucksport’s Kelly Downs was the hard-luck loser as she struck out nine while walking one, scattering nine hits.

Bangor 17, Nokomis 4

At Bangor, Julie Murray ripped a solo homer, doubled, singled and drove in three runs to lead the Rams to the victory.

Becca Kinney had two doubles and a single while driving in four runs, May Moody hit a double and a single, and Alicia Utterback and Renee Richardson each had two singles.

Wendy Winslow notched three singles for Nokomis of Newport.

At Blue Hill, Kathy Harrison took adavantage of three Hermon errors in the bottom of the seventh inning to score the game-winning run and lift the Eagles to victory.

Amy Foss doubled for George Stevens Academy. Jessica Frost had two singles for the Hawks.

DI-Stonington sweeps Shead

At Eastport, Deer Isle-Stonington piled up 20 hits en route to a doubleheader sweep of Shead. The Mariners won the opener 17-1 and took the second game 14-8.

In the first game, Rachel Pilling pitched a one-hitter, striking out 10 in five innings, and contributed a double and two singles good for three RBIs. Leslie McDonald provided a double and two RBIs.

In the nightcap, Morgan Hardy knocked in three runs with a triple, a double and a single to pace the Mariners. Becky Pilling singled three times and Rachel Pilling added a double and a single.

Holly Smith led Ellsworth with a triple and a home run. Angela Haslam had a single and a home run, Marcy Damp hit a single and a double, and Joni Pinkham had two singles.

At Orono, Mel Brooks knocked in four runs with four singles as the Red Riots outslugged the Ponies.

Kelly Bagley singled three times and plated three runs, and Jen Freese stroked a solo homer and a single good for four RBIs to spark Orono.

Jamie Iannetta paced Foxcroft Academy, bringing in five runs with a triple and single.

At Belfast, Terri Berg launched a three-run homer in the sixth inning and added a single to help power the Windjammers to victory.

Melissa Marriner and Liz Kelley each had two singles.

At Hampden, Lisa Dyment socked five singles, drove in the tying run and scored the winning run as the Indians defeated the Broncos in nine innings.

Danielle Wentworth drove in the winning run with one of her three singles. Brandy Knapp and Kendra Brown each singled twice.

Kate Thompson had three singles and Brie Drummond had a two-run single.
