Readers of Alicia Anstead’s article about the healthy state of the arts in Bangor (BDN, May 18-19) might also be interested to learn that Bangor was the site of significant new Arcady Music Society programs this year as well. In March, Arcady presented “In Motion,” a classical string trio for children that drew several hundred parents and children to the Bangor area public libraries. This month, more than 60 fiddlers, young and old, came to Bangor from all over central and Down East Maine to learn from fiddler Greg Boardman and to play for their families and the public at Arcady’s fiddlefest.

Both of these events, initiated and developed by Arcady’s Bangor committee, were the first of what promises to be many such Arcady activities that will be based in Bangor. Their success, as well as the major increases in Arcady’s evening Bangor concert audiences, have made Bangor, once a weak link in the Arcady chain, now a strong part of Arcady’s musical presence in central and Down East Maine.
