DANFORTH – Averill and East Grand split a Monday afternoon schoolboy baseaball doubleheader with the Beavers of Hinckley winning the first game, 12-6, and the host Vikings taking the second game, 14-6.

In the first game, Averill won by six runs despite being outhit 13-12.

Robert Harris led the Beavers with three singles and three RBIs. Dave Moque also had three singles.

For East Grand, Sherman Mason hit three singles and a double and drove in four runs. Craig Whiting added three singles.

In the second game, Whiting was at it again with three singles and five RBIs.

Mason had a double, a single and two RBIs – giving him six on the day. Derek Golding contributed three singles.

For Averill, Harris doubled.

Schenck sweeps DI-Stonington

At Deer Isle, Schenck of East Millinocket took two games from the Mariners of Deer Isle-Stonington, 14-5 in game one, and 7-3 in the second game.

In game one, Mike Kimball launched a two-run and a three-run home run to power the Wolverine assault. Danny St. Croix blasted a solo shot and Tony Turcotte ripped three singles for the winners.

Shawn Webb rapped a double and a single to pace Deer Isle as Nick Wiberg and Andy Eaton added two singles apiece.

In game two, pitcher Mike Kimball scattered six hits, struck out seven, and walked three to pick up the win for Schenck of East Millinocket.

Jake Turcotte ripped two singles and Chad Michaud pounded a two-run double for the Wolverines.

Josh Weed lead the Mariners with two singles.

At Blue Hill, Kevin Neal cranked two doubles and drove in three runs to back winning pitcher Rich Lebel.

Tim Pert chipped in with two singles for the winners.

Ed Houston slammed a solo homer for Central of East Corinth and Justin Bragdon had an RBI double.

At Orono, pitcher Peter Munn sent down 11 Dexter batters on strikes and allowed two walks on his way to a win for the Red Riots.

Munn helped his own cause with a double and two singles, Robey Rhoads belted a three-run home run and Barry Terrill ripped three singles for Orono.

Mike Gilbert pounded a solo home run and a single to lead the Tigers and Aaron Sargent chipped in with two singles.

Deer Isle-Stonington sweeps

At Deer Isle, Rachel Pilling pitched a one-hitter with 18 strikeouts in the first game and then stroked a two-run double to drive in the game-winning run in the second game, as Deer Isle-Stonington swept Schenck in a doubleheader, 3-2 and 5-3.

In the first game, Kim Stone scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game for the Mariners.

Pilling helped herself out with two singles.

For Schenck of East Millinocket, Cheryl Belleveau scored on a passed ball in the top of the ninth inning to put the Wolverines up 2-1. Kerri Lima had the lone hit, a single, and was also the hard-luck loser, tossing a five-hitter with eight strikeouts.

In the second game, Pilling nailed a bases-loaded ground-rule double to centerfield in the sixth inning to drive in the go-ahead run.

Winning pitcher Pilling finished with a double and single while Jessi Haskell, Jessi Weed and Anica Rissi each hit two singles.

For Schenck, Amanda Sherwood hit two singles and Lima doubled.

At Blue Hill, Kathy Harrison drove in four runs with a double and a single to power George Stevens Academy to its 10th win.

Amy Foss had two doubles and two RBIs for the Eagles and Samantha Astbury hit a single and a double.

For Central of East Corinth, Angela Allen hit two triples good for two RBIs and Marie Cookson singled and doubled. Joy Allen and Teresa Dow each hit two singles.
