Alaimo’s one-hit effort propels Hermon past MDI

HERMON – Mark Alaimo fashioned a one-hitter, striking out 12, to lead Hermon to a 2-0 schoolboy baseball victory over Mount Desert Island here Tuesday.

Steve Salyer’s single with two out in the sixth broke up Alaimo’s no-hit bid.

Adam Hunt hit two singles for Hermon and Sean Smith tripled.

Matt McFarland scattered seven hits for Mount Desert Island.

Ellsworth, Phil Hodgkins’s two-run single in the seventh scored the winning runs in the Eagles’ victory over Foxcroft Academy.

Mike Sirois doubled and singled to drive in two runs while Matt MacDonald and Chris Massengale each singled twice for Ellsworth.

Brock Hartford singled twice and Dan Levesque belted an RBI double to pace the Ponies.

At Mansfield Complex in Bangor, Cory Young pitched a seven-hitter, striking out 11, as Old Town beat Nokomis of Newport.

John Powers stroked a double and two singles for the Indians. Bryan Goody knocked in three runs with two doubles and Jared Foster plated three runs with a double and a single.

Jason Hewitt paced the Warriors with two doubles and a single. Spencer Day added an RBI single.

At Orono, junior pitcher Mike Perry tossed a four-hitter and struck out 10 while leading the Red Riots to their 12th win.

Perry, now 7-0, lowered his ERA to under 1.50 this season. Robey Rhoads paced Orono’s 13-hit attack with three singles and two RBIs. Jeremy Poulin, Barry Terrill and David Means each hit two singles. Tom Hite added a two-run triple to break the game open in the third inning.

For John Bapst of Bangor, Keith Freeman and Bill Ford each singled.

At Jonesport, Rod Damon poked a two-run single in the sixth inning to break open a 1-0 game and help Searsport gain its 10th win.

Winning pitcher Ryan DeRedin went the distance, striking out eight, and doubled. George Tripp added an RBI double.

For Jonesport-Beals, Stephen Bean hit two singles. Losing pitcher Byron Carver scattered six hits and struck out 10 batters.

At Camden, Erik Rist doubled twice and singled to help lead the Camden-Rockport Windjammers to the win over Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Brian Ridley notched a complete-game victory and hit a double and two singles. Justin Gushee doubled and singled, and Joah Peck added two singles.

Dan Bartlett doubled twice and Nick Lowe added two singles for the Huskies.

At East Sullivan, Derek Torrey hit three singles and knocked in two runs to lead George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill to victory.

Tim Pert had two singles, a double and two RBIs to aid in the Eagles’ 12-hit attack. Rich Lebel added a pair of singles.

For Sumner, Erik Dougan and Jason Soule each hit two singles.

At East Corinth, Steve Osborne provided three home runs, a triple, and a single, knocking in five runs to power Stearns of Millinocket to victory over Central.

Darren Daniels drove in six Stearns of Millinocket runs with a home run, double, and two singles, and Travis Cummings belted a solo home run. John Montgomery and Leo Marquis each added a single, double and an RBI, and Brian Johnson had a single, double and two RBIs.

For Central, Brik Brickett crushed a two-run homer and a two-run double, and Ed Houston added two singles.

At Lincoln, Heath Reeves blasted a two-run homer and pitched a complete game to lead Penquis of Milo to the win.

Rick Melanson led Penquis with three singles and Jason Heal had two hits. Jack Bragg added a solo home run.

For Mattanawcook Academy, Tony Aldrete hit a two-run blast while Nick Potts and Travis Theriault each hit two singles.

At Machias, M.J. Lenfestey slammed a three-run home run with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning, capping an eight-RBI performance that carried Machias to victory over Calais.

Lenfestey belted a three-run homer in the first inning, singled in the third, walked with the bases loaded in the fourth, and added an RBI double in the sixth to pace the Bulldogs. Calais brought on Chris Rohde to face Lenfestey in the seventh with first base open, but Lenfestey connected.

Andrew Feeney had two singles and an RBI and Josh Look two singles for the Bulldogs behind winner Ethan Bagley. The sophomore lefthander struck out three and walked four.

Joey Craig rapped a double and two singles to pace the Blue Devils, and Jason Redding singled twice.

At East Machias, Chad Dorr ripped a bases-loaded single to drive in two runs and earn the win for Narraguagus of Harrington.

Dorr finished the day with two singles and a double. Mickey Willey launched a two-run home run, Curtis Haskell and Robbie Worcester each doubled and singled for the Knights.

Jim Albert belted a two-run home run to lead Washington Academy.

At Houlton, Darren Stewart blasted a triple and two singles to lead the Hodgdon to victory.

Andy Wright doubled twice and tripled for Houlton, and Jon Pottle had a double and single. Brad Sewell had two singles.

At Fort Fairfield, Chad Boyd sent down 11 Tiger hitters on strikes and allowed five walks on his way to a four-hitter and a win for the Panthers.

Ben Allen had two singles for Central Aroostook of Mars Hill.

Matt Findlen rapped a double and a single to pace Fort Fairfield.

Van Buren takes two

At Van Buren, the Crusaders earned two schoolboy victories on Tuesday, with a 7-3 win in the opener over Wisdom and 12-0 victory in game two over Washburn.

In game one, Isaac Cote’s two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth inning was the difference for Van Buren. Corey Searles added two singles for the winners.

James Soucy rapped a double to pace Wisdom of St. Agatha.

In game two, pitchers Jesse Cormier and Ben LaPlante combined to one-hit Washburn and a victory for the Crusaders. The duo struck out nine Beavers and allowed one walk. LaPlante helped his own cause with two doubles and Cormier did the same with two singles. Isaac Cote chipped in a double and a single.

Ryan Fitzpatrick broke up Cormier’s no-hit bid with a single in the fifth inning for Washburn.
