ELLSWORTH — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department has begun random road checks to catch drunken drivers, Sheriff William F. Clark said.

All cars going through checkpoints will be stopped, but for those who have not been drinking delays will be short, and drivers will be given cards explaining the reason they were stopped.

The road checks are considered to be effective deterrents to drunken drivers and they will be conducted until late fall, Sheriff Clark said.
