The Maine Principals’ Association released the final Heal Point standings for Maine high school baseball and softball teams as regular season gives way to postseason, starting Tuesday.

In baseball, Cony of Augusta, Bucksport, George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill, and Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook are the top seeds in classes A, B, C, and D, respectively.

In softball, the top seeds are Medomak Valley of Waldoboro in Class A, Winslow in B, Searsport in C, and Ashland in D.

Postseason action begins Tuesday afternoon in Eastern Maine with four preliminary games.

In baseball, No. 9 Fort Kent will play at No. 8 Ellsworth in Class B and No. 8 Searsport will host No. 9 Narraguagus of Harrington in Class C action.

In softball, No. 9 Rockland will travel to No. 8 Hermon in Class B and No. 8 Limestone will host No. 9 Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Members of the MPA’s baseball-softball committees will meet Monday at the MPA’s headquarters in Augusta to review the final standings and correct any mistakes, settle any protests or misunderstandings, and assign officials for the postseason schedule.

“It’s basically a formality,” said MPA assistant director Larry LaBrie. “It gives us a chance to answer any questions, see if there were any errors, and set up the umpires for the tournament.”

The only unbeaten teams in Eastern Maine are the 16-0 Winslow girls and the 15-0 Ashland girls. There are only two undefeated teams in Western Maine, top ranked Scarborough (15-0) and No. 2 seeded Lisbon (14-0) — both Class C softball teams.

In the Eastern Class A baseball ranks, Gardiner and Waterville finished tied for the fourth spot with a tournament index of 114.0625 points. The rare occurence was settled in accordance with MPA guidelines by looking at head-to-head records first.

Waterville was awarded the fourth spot based on the Panthers’ win over Gardiner in the only game the two teams played against each other during the regular season.

If the teams had still been tied, a coin flip would have determined which team got home field advantage in the quarterfinals.
