Rain halts Ox for sixth time

The Bangor Blue Ox were rained out for the sixth time in 17 Northeast League games Wednesday night against the Rhode Island Tiger Sharks in West Warwick, R.I.

As a result, the Blue Ox will play their fourth unscheduled doubleheader Thursday at 6 p.m.

Starting left fielder Chad White re-aggravated a groin pull in Tuesday’s game with Newburgh after diving for John Lombardi’s two-run double in the sixth inning.

White will be out of action a minimum of two to three days, according to manager Dick Phillips.

The injury leaves Bangor thin in the outfield. Tim Morow (groin) can’t do anything but DH, and Popeye Cole’s swollen hand is still giving him trouble.

Bangor lefthanded starting pitcher Andy High has earned the nickname “Rain Man,” as he was the scheduled starter in three of the team’s six rainouts.

“We might have to put him in the bullpen and then bring him out in the first,” Phillips joked.

High has made only one official start this year, compared to four each by Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd and Jamie Davis, three by Husson College’s Mark Hreben, and two by R.J. Spang.
