Calais, Bangor split two games

BANGOR – The Calais Suns rode the arm of Sam Shippee to win game one 3-2, but Bangor rebounded with a 23-3 victory in game two on Saturday in American Legion action.

In game one, Shippee scattered seven hits, striking out seven and walking none. Ryan Thornton and Jason Redding each doubled and drove in a run.

Tim Patchell drove in a run with a double for Bangor.

In game two, Bangor pounded out 23 hits in the victory.

Casey Catell launched a two-run homer, Josh Pressley drove in three runs with a single and a triple and T.J. True and Tim Patchell each singled twice. True drove in three runs.

Randy Mercier tripled for Calais.

Trenton sweeps Skowhegan

At Trenton, the Acadians received two solid pitching performances from Steve Salyer and Dan Curtis en route to a doubleheader sweep of the Skowhegan Logdrivers, 10-4 and 4-2.

In the first game, Salyer pitched six innings of three-hit, two-run ball to tame Skowhegan’s bats.

Derek Torrey paced the Acadians with two singles while Dan Curtis, Aaron Brown and Ben Donaldson each drove in two runs.

For Skowhegan, Luke Domarecki, Alec Cyr and Tim Ouellette each singled.

In the second game, Curtis went the distance allowing three hits and no earned runs to lead Trenton.

Brown hit a two-run double in the first inning as the Acadians took a 3-0 lead. Brown also had a single. Chris Pickering hit a single and drove in two runs.

For Skowhegan, Domarecki, Howie Pike and Devon Welch each hit a single. Chris Morris was the hard-luck loser, allowing six hits over six innings with three walks.

Hermon sweeps Waldo

At Searsport, the Navigators used a combination of timely hits and home runs to sweep Waldo County.

In game one, Todd Tufts and Spencer Day each singled twice to pace the Navigators.

Greg Bouchard hit two singles and a double while George Tripp singled three times.

In game two, eight home runs were hit by both teams, five by the Navigators.

Josh Morse led the long-ball brigade with two solo homers and a two-run shot in the fifth. Tufts had his own two-run shot to go along with a single and a double. Adam Hunt added a solo homer in the second.

Tripp launched two homers, a solo in the first and a two-run homer in the fifth, to pace Waldo County. Matt Cox had a single and a solo homer. Waldo batted around in the seventh, scoring five runs, but fell just short in their comeback bid.

Twins sweep Falcons

At Orono, the Old Town-Orono Twins used solid pitching to hand the Brewer Falcons their first two losses of the season 7-0 and 3-1.

In game one, John Montgomery struck out only two batters, but he also only gave up two hits on the way to the shutout.

Bryan Goody and John Powers each had two singles and drove in a run.

Jason Dority and David Gross each singled for Brewer.

In game two, Mike Perry fashioned a three-hitter, surrendering just one run, for the victory.

Steve Osborne hit two singles, Montgomery had an RBI-single and Darrin Daniels had an RBI-double for the Twins.

Don Sawyer had two singles and Dennis Roy had one for Brewer.
