NEWBURGH, N.Y. – R.J. Spang had his best outing of the year and the Bangor Blue Ox snapped a three-game losing streak with a 9-3 win over second-place Newburgh at Delano-Hitch Stadium.

Spang, a 6-foot 195-pound rightie who had just been moved out of the bullpen back into the starting rotation, pitched his second complete game of the year. He scattered seven hits and three walks while striking out seven. All three Newburgh runs were unearned.

Bangor moves to 17-16 and 7 1/2 games behind 22-11 Newburgh.

Spang received plenty of offensive support as seven Blue Ox batters had two hits each.

Garrett Quaintance and Carlos Mota each hit RBI singles in the third inning to help Bangor take a 3-0 lead.

Jello Cox made it 4-0 one inning later after he doubled, stole third base and then scored on an error. Corey Parker then hit his league-leading fourth triple and scored on a single by Popeye Cole, chasing Newburgh starter Ken Dixon (2-2).

The Blue Ox added two more runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings.

Parker finished with a triple, single and his league-leading 33rd RBI. Cox, Cole and Quanitance each had a double and a single.

Joey Madden paced the Night Hawks with two singles and an RBI.
