Bangor and Brewer each earned one-run victories in the first night of the District 3 Junior League (age 13) All-Star baseball tournament at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor.

Brewer edged Old Town 8-7 and Bangor nipped Millinocket 4-3. Old Town and Millinocket will play Saturday night at 7 p.m. and Bangor will play Brewer Sunday at 2 p.m.

In D3 11- and 12-year-old baseball Calais eliminated Katahdin 15-5.

In D3 11- and 12-year-old softball action from Friday, Bangor East eliminated Machias 12-6 and Old Town handed Bangor West a 15-5 loss.

Bangor East will play Bangor West on Monday and Old Town will play the winner on Wednesday.

Junior League

Brewer 8, Old Town 7

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Justin Spencer pitched a two-hitter to lead Brewer to the win.

Spencer also had two singles, as did Brandon Gray and Adam Barnes.

For Old Town, Tim Dolley and Shawn McAulley each hit a single.

Bangor 4, Millinocket 3

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Justin Libbey stroked a single in the bottom of the seventh that drove in the winning run as Bangor slid past Millinocket.

Libbey had a triple and three singles on the day as well as tossing a two-hitter with nine strike outs. David Dunphy singled three times and Joe Campbell singled twice.

Ryan Reece singled twice for Millinocket.

Little League

Calais 15, Katahdin 5

At Katahdin, Jordan Flood hit two singles and a double to lead Calais to the win.

Alanna Martin and Ryan Fitch each chipped in with a double and a single for Calais, which also got two singles from Tom MacMannis.

For Katahdin, Justin Newton hit two singles and Justin Stevens doubled.

Softball

Bangor East 12, Machias 6

At Bangor, Ashley Tyler hit two singles and a triple and Amy Rogers got the win for Bangor East.

Heidi Baker socked three singles while Jenny Jimmo and Charlee Simpson each notched two singles.

Jennifer Savard singled twice for Machias.

Old Town 15, Bangor West 5

At Old Town, Brandi Coulombe belted two two-run homers, a triple and a single as Old Town powered past Bangor West.

Sarah Metivier notched three singles, Jamie Higgins and Heather McLaughlin each hit a single and a double while Renee Thibodeau and Jessica Paul each singled twice. McLaughlin got the win giving up just two hits.

Cara Oleksyk singled twice for Bangor West.
