GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – A seven-run inning and another steady pitching performance out of Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd gave the Bangor Blue Ox a 10-7 victory over Adirondack Wednesday night.
Boyd allowed four earned runs and seven hits in five innings to up his record to 5-0. He struck out one and walked none. Steve Maddock pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief for his second save of the season.
Bangor moves to 2-1 in the second half of the Northeast League season. Adirondack drops to 1-2.
Angelo “Jello” Cox was the offensive star for Bangor, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs, three steals, and two runs.
Cox led off the seven-run fourth with a single. One out and a Cox steal later, Corey Parker smashed his league-leading 11th home run of the season.
Tim Morrow’s single, Robert “Popeye” Cole’s walk and Chad White’s bloop single loaded the bases before Garret Quaintance (3-for-4) hit a two two-run single.
Carlos Mota’s RBI double sent Dave Masi (2-1) to the showers. With two out, Cox hit a two-run single to cap the scoring. Cox’s 25 steals lead the league
Maddock struck out the leadoff man in the ninth, but ran into trouble with a walk and a Darren Doucette single before striking out the last two batters to end the game.
