Nelson shakes off bad start for 5th win

UNITY – Steve Nelson of Albion went flag-to-flag for his fifth Late Model Pro-Stock victory of the season by overcoming a rough start and consistent pressure by runner-up driver Larry Pottle of Benton at Unity Raceway Saturday night..

Nelson, who was the pole-sitter, came out unscathed after a six-car pileup on the first lap. Skowhegan’s Chris Stanley started in the second slot, but gave way to Pottle halfway through the 35-lap feature.

Matt Lee of Albion finished a strong third.

Austin keeps on rolling

At Speedway 95 in Hermon, Jon Austin of Otis won his third straight Dash For Cash series race in the Late Model Sportsman division.

Austin led the entire length of the 35-lap race to pocket $1000.

Aaron St. Peter finished second and Russ Griffen came in third.

Lagerson wins Oxford LMS

At Oxford Plains Speedway, Bill Lagerson of Lewiston won his second Late Model Stock division 75-lap race of the year on Saturday.

Lagerson started in the middle of the 29-car field and took the lead on lap 28 and held it. Leon Heckbert finished second and Scott Luce took third.

Doody wins second straight

At Caribou Speedway, hometown driver Larry Doody took the checkered flag in the Sportsman Division for the second week in a row.

Dave Fleming finished up in second place while Tharren McDougal took third.
